American Pool representatives Matt Silver from Heartline and Beth Barnett from American Pool Berlin, New Jersey.

Last week representatives from American Pool Edison, New Jersey and Berlin, New Jersey led a discussion on community pool safety strategy at the CAI New Jersey Networking Reception. Our pool professionals aimed to raise awareness of pool hazards that community managers and board members may not be aware of.

Recently Science Daily published a study which discovered that more than ⅓ of parents would allow their child to be in a residential, community, or hotel pool unsupervised. The percentages were much lower for lakes (16%) and oceans (13%). It seems that some parents are uninformed about the real dangers of a pool, and how the dangers in a pool is no different from a lake or ocean when it comes to safety.

The CDC continues to teach the top ways to prevent a water safety incident including proper supervision, fencing or pool boundaries, and the ability to swim. We are always eager and ready to spread the message of pool safety and our representatives did just that, explaining how vigilant supervision and lifeguard management can help prevent tragedies in their neighborhood.
