Recall Alert: Pool Pump Motors

By Julia Southerland July 20, 2017 , , , ,

Health Canada, along with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (US CPSC) and Nidec Motor Corporation, have issued a joint recall of a number of pool pump motors that may pose an electrical shock hazard. After multiple reports of the pump’s cover not being grounded properly, Nidec Motor Corporation in St. Louis, Mo., recalled about 16,000 variable speed motors in North America.

Affected pumps feature a programmable user interface with the name ‘Emerson’ or ‘EcoTech EZ’ on the top. The affected motors were sold from 2010 to October 2017 in the U.S. and Canada.

If you believe your pool pump motor may be one of those affected, please check the side of the pump for the model number printed on the rating plate. A list of the model numbers included in the recall can be found here. To the left is a photo of the motor here where you can see the location of the model number.

Although there have not been any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of affected products, Health Canada is advising consumers to stop using affected pumps immediately and contact the manufacturer for a free repair by a qualified technician.

Please contact us with any questions regarding pool pumps, we would be happy to discuss the many options we can provide for your community and can install, repair and maintain that pump to keep your pool open all summer long!
