Your number one concern at your pool should be safety; our number one concern at your pool is safety. At American Pool safety is our core value, and everything we do is built around it. From lifeguard training to managing your water chemistry to repairing or renovating your pool, safety is our number one focus. Nothing, and we mean nothing, is as important to us as your safety at the pool. To achieve this level of safety, and our exemplary safety record, we employ the best trained and knowledgeable pool professionals in the industry, and we never stop training and teaching. We go well beyond what our competition does, it costs us more to do it, but we don’t know any other way.
We have three other core values – care, thoughtfulness, and honesty. We live these every day to provide you not only a safe pool experience but a fun and enjoyable experience as well. After all, it’s a pool and it’s there for you to have fun. It’s these core values that drive our service excellence and keeps our customers coming back. It’s not by chance that we have built the largest swimming pool management and maintenance company in the 30 years we’ve been in business – we’ve earned it, and we hope you become a part of it.
Here are the facts
American Pool was founded in 1984 and has since grown to be the largest commercial swimming pool management, maintenance, construction and recreational facility management operation in the United States. We currently have 26 wholly-owned subsidiaries that are operating in 16 U.S. States and Washington D.C. Internationally, we have locations in Toronto and Ottawa, Canada.
As a whole, our company serves over 3,000 commercial swimming facilities and over 9,400 residential pools. Commercially-focused American Pool companies service apartments, homeowner associations, country clubs, swim clubs, hospitality businesses, condominiums, fitness clubs and active adult communities. Essentially, any commercial property with a pool or aquatic element (like a fountain).
In addition, we employ over 7,500 lifeguards and 300 full-time, year-round employees. Our operations are presently concentrated along the U.S. East Coast with expansion efforts looking to broaden this base. Our business support team for all offices and our executive Leadership are located in Owings Mills, Maryland.

The softer side
Even as a large company, we believe in streamlining our services, locally. We are not a franchise, we are a company that supports our local offices by providing resources (like human resources, accounting, information technology and marketing) to help our operations focus on their customers.
Over the years, we’ve built, renovated and repaired thousands of pools. It’s a source of great pride. Our pools and fountains serve our local communities and help families play, learn and live with water.
On the lifeguard side, we provide jobs to thousands of young adults every year. This difficult job requires thorough training, close supervision and guidance. So we thought, instead of just hiring lifeguards each summer, why not provide something more? So we started Guard for Life.
Guard for Life is a brand that focuses on the unique qualities of our lifeguards. Through this brand, we create a community, built on a core value of safety and provide fun incentives – like a summer-long contest. Our mission is to build a lifeguard culture, not just staff pools.
As we look towards the future, we don’t just see the next summer. Our larger vision pushes us to create methods to improve the lives of our customers and continue to support small pool businesses. Here’s to the next 30 years!
Our leadership team includes experienced executives in the aquatics, financial, and hospitality industries. Our parent organization, The Amenity Collective, provides leadership across all our service deliveries:
- Residential and commercial aquatics
- Personal luxury services
